"Don't you love me anymore?" she asked, staring intently into his eyes, searching for an answer to why he was leaving. He sighed, wondering why he had to hurt her so much.
"Yes, I love you. I always have. But, Janie" he began, hoping to explain what was forcing him to go. But she would have none of his excuses.
Her anger welled up into her voice, and she couldn't stop herself from saying "You're lying. If you loved me, how could you do this?" Her voice hit him like a slap.
